Accordion Menus

Accordion menus allow test takers to show or hide items in a multi-level menu as needed. Accordions are useful for showing hierarchical relationships among pieces of information.

Accordion menus generally work best with two levels of content.

The following demo presents three levels of an accordion menu, which is the maximum amount of levels allowed to avoid overwhelming test takers.

To view alternative presentations and styling, use the Change Theme and Read Aloud buttons in the upper-right of the screen.

When a top- or mid-level item is selected, one of two behaviors is allowed:

  • The item’s submenu is expanded, and associated content is displayed.
  • The item’s submenu is expanded. (In this case, only bottom-level items display associated content when selected.)

Only one bottom-level item’s submenu can be fully expanded at a time. A slide animation plays when a submenu is expanded or collapsed.
