Alert Messages

Alert messages provide a way to visually emphasize critical information. They have three elements:

  • An icon. The icon is presented to the left of the alert text on a square background with rounded corners. The background color aligns with the nature of the alert (e.g., informational alerts are blue). (See the Colors page for more information about NAEP’s color palette.)
  • The alert text. If the alert contains more than one sentence, the first sentence contains the most essential information and is bolded.
  • A border. The border may be omitted in contexts where it is not needed to differentiate the alert from surrounding content.

The following example presents alert messages with and without a border, respectively.
