Coordinate Grids

Coordinate grids are displayed for response types in which students must create or manipulate points, lines, line segments, or mathemetical figures as part of their response.

Grid Elements

Coordinate grids are composed of the following elements.

  • Title (optional*). Centered above grid. Bolded and in all caps.
  • Grid border. Light gray #CCCCCC line that bounds the grid.
  • Grid lines. Gray #949494 lines that form the grid.
  • Axes. Black #000000 lines with arrowheads.
  • Axis labels. An italicized x or y positioned at the upper bound of the associated axis. Each label has a white #FFFFFF halo around it to prevent collisions with the grid lines.
  • Axis names (optional*). Centered next to the associated axis.
  • Axis ticks. Short black #000000 lines along each axis indicating the increments at which the grid lines appear.
  • Axis tick labels. Appear immediately below (for the x-axis) or to the left (for the y-axis) of each axis tick. Each label has a white #FFFFFF halo around it to prevent collisions with the grid lines.

* When an item in a pure mathematical context includes an xy-plane, a title and axis names are not provided.
