Shape Builder

The shape builder response type allows test takers to respond to an item by placing line segments and circles on a grid.

The following demo presents the shape builder response type. The demo has limited functionality for the purpose of showing its themes and styling.

To view alternative presentations and styling, use the Change Theme and Read Aloud buttons in the upper-right of the screen.

Source Tray

Test takers can add line segments and circles to the grid by dragging them from a source tray above the grid. The source tray has the same styling as those used for the Matching response type.

Grid

The grid used for shape builder responses has the same styling as typical Coordinate Grids, with the following exceptions:

  • The grid border has the same style as grid lines (i.e., medium-weight gray #949494 lines).
  • Axes, axis labels, axis names, and axis ticks are not provided.
  • The origin label is replaced by a zero aligned with the vertical and horizontal axis labels.

Line segments and circles have the same styles and behaviors as draggable Points, Lines, Polygons, with two exceptions:

  • The center point of each circle is used to translate the circle.
  • The outer point of each circle receives the ew-move cursor since it transforms the circle in only one dimension.

Controls

Undo and Reset buttons are right-justified beneath the grid. Both buttons use the small secondary filled button style. (See the Buttons page for more information.)

  • The Undo button reverts the last change to the grid.
  • The Reset button restores the grid to its initial state.
